Strength training is one of the best activities a woman (or anyone for that matter) can do for their body. These days it is pretty well known that strength training is the best form of exercise to help you lose weight and to build and sculpt the body that you want, but do you know of the many other health benefits?
Strength training reduces your risk of osteoporosis by placing stress on the bones which in turn causes an increase in bone density - if you want stronger bones, you have to give your body a reason to make them stronger.
Reduces your risk of heart disease because strength training improves your body composition, leading to less fat and more muscle, and also cuts your risk of developing high cholesterol
Better quality of life - being stronger makes everyday activities such as carrying groceries, walking up and down stairs, sitting down and getting up or reaching overhead much easier.
Being strong also improves balance which may reduce the risk of falls and can help maintain independence as you get older.
Reduces the risk of injury because as well as building strong muscles, it also strengthens your ligaments and tendons which leads to improved motor performance and less strain on your joints.
Speed up metabolic rate - building muscle helps to speed up your metabolism, while strength training does not burn as many calories per session as cardio exercise, it does burn more calories after as your body recovers from the training. Muscle is also metabolically active tissue so the more muscle you have on your body, the more calories you burn at rest.
As you can see there are so many amazing benefits to start strength training if you have not already.
